Widget Factory

Follett needed an easy way to promote eBook usage and search usage across all of its product lines. The Widget Factory was created as a platform for marketing to create engaging graphics to be used a banners that our customers can insert on their websites. These widgets are smart enough to know which collection to search and can be configured in a wide variety of ways. Each product can have an unlimited amout of badges, specific to holidays or current events and these badges can even kick off a search in their collection when clicked. In addition to the badge widget, there is an interactive search widget that users can type in a search term and then execute that search on their products search page. The simplicity of the Widget Factory is the selling point. Our customers launch to the Widget Factory from their actual product, select the widget they want to use, copy a small snippet of html code and paste it on their site. Project went to Pilot for Follett Shelf on 2/14/15 and the pilot ended on 6/1/15.

The next steps for Widgets Factory is to integrate it with our Universal Search offering. This will allow Destiny customers to use these widgets to promote searching the collection of resources.  Once we complete the changes, you will be able to find access to Universal Search Widgets from within the product. Stay tuned…

graduated Widgets have graduated!  The core development team has picked up the work on this project and has released it to the public.

Has a widget been created for Universal Search? I see this was posted over a year ago but no other information is provided.

    • RJ Lindelof says:

The Universal Search team is hard at work integrating with the Widget Factory. The tentative plan is to have the work completed by Spring of 2016.

  2. Hello,

Would you please let us know once the universal search widget is available?

    Thanks,
    Andrea

    • RJ Lindelof says:

Andrea – on May 20th 2016 there was a release of Destiny that included Universal Search Widgets. As the administrator of the school you can go to your Universal Search and click on the menu dropdown and choose Widgets.

  3. Cathi Fuhrman says:

Can you please make the widgets linkable? It’s great that our students can enter a search term in the widget – but we also want them to be able to click on the image of the widget and link directly to Universal Search. Our Gale widgets have been doing this for years.
